Question:
I seem to have a problem. When ever I have intercourse my vagina dries up and it gets painful. Is there something I can do?

I am responding to your question about drying up during intercourse. How old are you? If you are past your menopause it may be that you would benefit from hormone replacement therapy. Check with a doctor to see whether you are a candidate for this type of treatment. If you are younger, I would suggest to start out using personal lubricants, which you can get over the counter at any pharmacy (KY jelly, Astroglide, etc.). If this does not help, I would see a doctor who can prescribe a vaginal cream or suppository which will enhance the lubrication of your vagina. Sincerely, Annette Owens, MD PhD
