Question:
Hi there, I'm 16 and have been taking birth control for a long time. I have been able to masturbate to orgasm before with no problems. I then started taking Yasmin birth control and all of a sudden my ability to orgasm died. I felt so close and on the edge, but couldn't do it. I decided to switch to Ortho-Triclyclin-lo to try to fix the problem. I've been on it for almost a whole pack and I don't think the problem is fixed. Will I ever get my orgasms back? I really need answers.

Ok Darlin.... I see that you are taking Effexor...whoa-that's an orgasm killer. Birth control pills can have a side effect of reducing sexual desire, so, it sounds like mixing the birth control pills with the Effexor is what is knocking your ability to come. The next set of bad news is there are no known drugs that don't run the risk of sexual side effects. So, you really will have to experiment with some new psych meds. Have you tried Wellbutrin? I think it is in the same class as Effexor, but it is rumored to NOT decrease the sex drive/orgasmic ability and for those that are having a hard time with that go on it. So, in conclusion, the pill you are on has a very low dose of hormones so I would talk to your psychiatrist and tell them your problem. Suggest Wellbutrin or tell them you want to be put on another drug. YOu have the right to ask for that and they won't know if something is a problem unless you tell them. Good Luck and thanks for writing in! Megan Andelloux
