Question:
I'm a 36 year old male from the UK. I have a new partner who is 33 and was diagnosed with Hepatitis C (HCV) several years ago. I have two questions, 1) What are the chances of myself contracting Hepatitis C through un-protected sex with her ? 2) My partner has been prescribed the depo-provera injection for contraception by her doctor. I was under the impression that depo-provera should NOT be used by people with possible liver problems, ie people with Hepatitis C. Is she safe to continue using depo-provera ? will the contraceptive properties be altered by HCV ? will depo-provera change her currently dormant HCV? Thanks in advance,

Thank you for your request. There are many types of hehaptitis viruses. The B variety will speard by any body fluid, blood being on top of the list. C virus will spread by blood contact. Interscourse has not been shown to spread it. Now the liver thing. Differentiate between hapatitis C irus and liver functions. Just being Hep C positive does not mean you have a (now) bad liver. If the liver functions are good, tyhe liver is good...And I am sure her gynecologist did the essential lab checks and tests. Follow up is mandatory in all cases.
