Question:
Hi. Well, I went to the gyno for a reg pap smear and I have an infection called gardenella, bacterial vagnosis. I'm really concerned for my husband because I don't want him to get this infection. Is this possible even though it isn't an STD? I had this infection when I was a younger but it was treated, even before I ever had sex.I didn't think it was that serious being I had when I was younger and I knew it wasn't as std Is it possible to be born with this infection? I know that even virgins can get this infection and that it is common. My doctor says that my husband can't get it. My husband says that he doesn't have any signs. Please answer asap! Thank you.

Thank you for submitting your question. Even though this may not be an "STD", it is still an infection. It is possible for any type of bacterial infection to be spread during sex. In order to protect your husband, you should refrain from sex until you are off of medication (and the infection goes away). Hope this information helps!Reviewed by: Scott Gross M. Ed.
