Question:
Hello, the other day I had oral sex with a girl(I went down on her)and I had a healing coldsore. It had formed a scab and was not bleeding nor was her vagina. But I can help to be concerned that I have put myself at risk from HIV/AIDS.Although I have OCD(obsessive compulsive Disorder).I honestly feel as though I have been extremly careless. Please help me as I am very concerned.

Oral sex with some one of unknown HIV-status is risky. Exactly how risky, no one can say for sure. Perhaps it would be productive to work on communicating with your sexual partner. Focusing on both of your emotional needs, while talking openly & directly in a caring manner - will all balance the situation. The issue is much more complex than whether you had a scab on a cold sore. If you had oral sex with a girl you have been in a monogamous relationship with for many years it’s a very different risk, sexually & emotionally, than someone you had just met. Are you acting impulsively without paying attention to whether this is a pattern? The best help I can offer is to advise you to print out your question & this answer to take with you to your counseling session (mentioned in other information) to be discussed within the context of your on-going anxieties. You are apparently working toward controlling your worries. Keep up the good work.
