Question:
I just began taking the pill about a month ago. I am ready to have sex without condoms with my previously virgin boyfriend. I have been tested for HIV and been to a gyno so I am clear of STD's as well. We have always used the pull out method or used condoms, but now we wont need to do that. I know that when he cums inside of me his sperm will stay in there. Is it important for me to clean it out somehow? Will it spill out if I stand up or lay down for a while? How long will it be inside of me? What methods would work best, especially if I am not always near a sink. Thank you for your help.

Hello Ready, Just a couple of concerns I wanted to mention before I answer your main question. You mentioned being tested for HIV, but a trip to the gyno as meaning you were STD free. Did you have actual testing for STD's, or just a pap smear? A pap smear only looks for abnormal cells on the cervix (a cancer screen), but is not a test for STD's. Often, women think this test looks for STD's. Bacterial STD's are usually done with a urine sample or swab test, and other STD's, such as Herpes or syphilis are tested through a blood sample. Just some information for you to make sure about this! As far as removing semen from the vagina after ejaculation, it can be a bit of a nuisance to have it leak out later on, so you could do a couple of things to help push it out. Either in bed, or the bathroom, depending on how comfortable you are with your partner, you can use a tissue, or washcloth to wipe any immediate liquid from the vulva. Then, if you tense up your stomach muscles, and push down (almost like if you were pushing to urinate, without actually doing it), fluid that was further up the vaginal canal will leak out on your tissue/washcloth. You can do this a couple of times, a few minutes apart, and usually get most of the fluid to exit. Then a warm rinse with the washcloth can help you tidy up some more. Again, the fluid will eventially spill out on its own, but it can be a nuisance if you don't try to push it out on your own. Keeping some clean cloths in a nightstand next to the bed (or wherever you like to have sex) is a way to plan for this if you are not near a sink. Good luck! Signed, Raven James
