Masturbation is a normal sexual activity for men and women. It is normal to masturbate. Masturbating at the rate once per day is not necessarily indicative of problems. In fact, it is quite common for young males (i.e., teenagers or men in their 20s) to masturbate daily. Research shows that masturbatory frequency is not related to relationship satisfaction or sexual satisfaction in couples. In short, it is okay to masturbate. It is also okay NOT to masturbate. What becomes problematic are the myths and negative attitudes that we have about masturbation. You are more likely to be successful in addressing your concern by exploring your sexual values and getting accurate information about masturbation and other issues in sexuality. Consider working with a sex therapist for a time and/or doing some reading, such as The New Male Sexuality or the Big Book of Masturbation.
