Question:
I had unprotected brief oral sex (i.e. not to completion) performed on me by a strange woman I know nothing about, other than that she is quite active. I'm wondering how I can find out if I've contracted any STD and what I should look out for as symptoms. So far (24 hours later) I haven't had any symptoms but I'm obviously very concerned.

, symptoms, herpesThe best way to find out whether or not you acquired an STD via this oral sex encounter is to visit a clinic or doctor's office, where you can be tested for both bacterial and viral STDs. The latter, often, do not show symptoms, thus testing is the only sure-fire way to determine whether or not you've been infected. The sexually transmitted infection you should have the most concern about acquiring via oral sex is herpes, since it is often transmitted in this manner. Other STDs to be weary of are gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, and HIV, though there is low-risk oral transmission. In examining yourself for symptoms of STDS, be aware of discolored discharge, fever, burning urination, itching, pelvic area pain, and sores. Make sure to bring attention to any of these symptoms when being examined by a physician! Thank you for visiting the Sexual Health Network. Yvonne K. Fulbright, MS.Ed.
