Question:
5 months ago i had a scare of STD (clamydia or ghonorrhea) after non-safe sexual encounter... after testing for those and results coming back negative; i was diagnosed with a likely case of enlarged or infection of the prostate. ive taken two doses of antibiotic..LEVAQUIN (a one-month and a 1-week) over the last 5 months. symptons have continued to linger.. mostly the dribbling of urine, irritated penis tip and a slight/subtle pressure in the testicles. recently, symptons started up again after a somewhat quiet period, and am currently on a 14-day dose of levaquin. after DAY 3, the tip of the penis is fairly red and irritated, and the pressure in the testicles in pretty constant. can you give me any suggestions or second opinions? or should i just be patient and finish my dose? thanks.

You seem to have done all the right things after the unsafe sexual encounter. Getting tested and seeing a doctor is very important. I am not a medical doctor, nor is it ethical for anyone to give you a diagnosis over the internet without seeing you, but I would suggest that you finish the medication and then if there is no subsequent significant change, I would return to the doctor for further examination. IF the redness on the end of the penis continues and there is still irritation it suggests that you may be allergic to that medication. By the time you get my answer though, you may have already done some of the things I suggest here. Often doctors cannot tell what the cause of the inflammation or infection may be, so they use a common antibiotic to try to rule some things out. You didn’t mention if your doctor was a general practitioner or a urologist. I would suggest that you see a urologist for the symptoms you are describing to me. That second opinion might be very helpful, and urologists have special training in prostate and urinary tract issues. Because the tip of your penis is irritated, you may need completely different treatment, and the pressure in the testicles and swollen prostate certainly need continued examination. I hope you are doing fine by now
