Zoloft is a medication that is commonly prescribed for conditions
such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic
disorders. Some of the most common side effects associated with
Zoloft are ejaculatory delay and decreased libido. The decrease in
the intensity of your orgasms and changes in you ejaculatory volume
are likely caused by your medication. Also if you ejaculate frequently
this can also contribute to a decrease in ejaculatory volume. The fact
that you can still get an erection and reach orgasm is promising as
many individuals have far more dramatic sexual side effects
associated with the use of Zoloft. You may want to speak with your
doctor about the decreased intensity of your orgasms as he or she
may be able to reduce your dosage of Zoloft which may help to
alleviate some of your problems.
You should also keep in mind that using the withdrawal method of
birth control is not a highly effective one. If you and your wife are
looking to avoid pregnancy you should also discuss using a different
form of birth control.
Follow-up questions: Thank you for your response about Zoloft. I
have gone to taking it every other day as my doc has prescribed me
to do, and soon may get off it altogether. I only take 50mg per day,
but now 50mg every other day. I will let you know of the results.
Also, I can't remember if I asked you this (I think I did), but is there
anything to that "sex in a bottle" herbal stuff. I believe green oats is
the main ingredient ? and that it releases bound testosterone in the
body, increasing orgasm intensity, as well as increases different types
of sexual pleasure such as increased genital stimulation, and in
general better sexual pleasure. Is there anything to this, or is it hype?
Their studies say it works for 70% of those who take it.
Maybe cutting back on the Zoloft will do the trick....if not, I may try
such an herbal supplement?
Thank You...........
P.S. Been withdrawing 13 years with great success! If my wife did
become pregnant, that would not upset us. We have 1 child whom
we adore; may have 1 more anyway. But later in life I agree, we will
need a different method of birth control!
Follow-up response: I am glad to hear back from you. I am confident
that you will find that a decrease in your Zoloft dose will help to
increase your orgasmic responses.
As for your question concerning the large number of these herbal
products that market themselves as "sexual enhancers", "sex in the
bottle" or as "natural aphrodisiacs", there is very limited scientific
research that has been done on these products. The United States
Food and Drug Administration does not require the same type of
rigorous testing for "herbal" compounds as they do for prescription
medications. Therefore many of the claims that these herbal
manufactures make about these compounds have never been
scientifically proven. Testosterone is important for stimulating both
the sex drive in the male and female but only small amounts are
required. Decreased testosterone levels to the point were one would
start to experience a decrease in sexual functioning are fairly
uncommon. Your cells can only bind so much testosterone at one
time, so having extra unbound testosterone to bind to your cells is
not going to bring about any additional physiological changes.Reviewed by Sexual Health Editorial Team
