Question:
My health care providers are usually female, which is just fine, because if I have to be naked, I'd rather it be in front of a woman. I have an average sized erect penis - no issue there. My issue is that when I go to my annual physical to get my testicular and hernia exams (and the ocassional dreaded digital rectal exam), my penis seems to just about shrink into my body! I'm talking smaller than my normal flaccid state. This is FAR more embarrassing than if I sported an erection! At least then she'd see I was really normal size. Believe it or not, this "shrinkage" problem causes a great deal of anxiety about going to the doctor. I know they are all professionals, I know I should only care about my health. But this issue torments me. All I wish for is my normal flaccid state (or better) to avoid embarrassment. I've tried boxers and briefs to no avail. It happens either way. Any advice on how to avoid the dreaded shrinkage? My annual exam is in two weeks. Thanks.

I know you may not want to hear this - since it sounds like you know this already but.... what you describe is normal. And you are with a health care professional who also recognizes this as normal. I do wonder if the female medical provider is more of an issue. Trust me - the doctor is interested in your health care - not the size of your penis. Would it be useful or reassuring to talk to your doctor in advance about the shrinkage - and let her know it bothers or concerns you? Perhaps then she can reassure you. Best wishes!
