Dear Dr. Logan R.Levkoff:
I would apprecaite very if you can clrify 2 question to me:
1) What age in average do boys start masturbating? At 10, 12, 15 years old???
2) From sexual health's point of view, is there a difference if one boy starts masturbating at 12 years old and his adolescent masturbation lasts for 5 years, but another boy starts at 13 years old and his adolescent masturbation continues for 4 years? Say, all other components of this activity are the same.
What is better: 12 years old and adolecsent masturbation for 5 years, or 13 years old and 4 years? Does it matter for boys? Is it significant for the sexologist/ sex therapist?
Do these question sound stupid? However, it is important to me to understand whether the age of beginning masturbation and the duration during adolescent has the significance.
I would appreciate very much your expertise and hope to receive your responses.

Thank you for your question. There is no average age when boys start masturbating. Some males rub their genitals during infancy and others don’t start until the time of puberty. And then there are some who do not masturbate at all. It is simply a personal choice. As for your second question, there is no difference between onset of masturbation and length of activity. Masturbation is a healthy and safe activity that takes place throughout the entire life cycle. There isn’t a point in time when it stops or becomes bad. I hope this answers your question.
